So the annual week vacation is off to a flying start! We left the house at 10:30, not bad, considering our goal was 9.
We had decided to split the trip into two days, with the goal of camping in Pike Lake Provincial park. Todays goal was only a short six hour drive, a break from the usual twelve we forced them to endure to go to Grandma and Grandpa’s place
And by camping, I mean sleeping in a 26 foot rv. I have images of our children trying to feed a lollipop to a bear, and I like being able to lock them in.
It’s my gift to Mother Nature
But anyways, given the late start, we had a late arrival,
with ominous clouds piling up in the sky.
The kids had done amazingly well No one killed anyone else, and there were hardly any parental meltdowns either.
(I’d had enough coffee this time, as I knew what to expect)
I took the three small yard apes to burn off some travel steam at the little playground for long enough to feel the wind start to blow cool through the 30 degree day, and for spit to hit my face.
Note to self- never tell a four year old you just felt spit hit your face. They will assist you in that.
We hightailed it back to the camper and the power went out in the middle of the inside-on- the-floor picnic of lunch leftovers.
So, much to the disappointment of all of us, s’mores will have to wait for another night.
And while not exactly how we planned it, the soft sound of rain on the tin roof makes me smile as my children whisper quietly in their bunk.
I really hope I can sleep through everyone I love in one room. 3/6 snore. Sigh.
