September long weekend,
summer days slipping away.
Children laughing in the sun,
priceless golden heads shining.
I feel a chill descend as the sun
slips away,
knowing that it’s only days until
frost fills the morning air.
Family surrounding us,
good food, good company,
good conversation.
Clouds hide the sun and my smile
Soon they will return to school,
My little ones slipping away.
Like the summer they frolic in,
gone but not forgotten
