New Years intentions

It’s the second day of the year, and I already have serious reservations about the list of “intentions” I’ve come up with for 2018.

So far, it looks like I need to find about six more hours per day to accomplish my list.

With that extra time, I should be able to work a solid 40 hours a week, spend at least 40 sleeping, 7 doing yoga (cause yoga will make my bones feel 20 again, right?) a good 40 with the kids, a few hours a week running, reading and writing.

I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few things from my list already. My problem is that I get carried away. Instead of picking one or two things, I make a list of everything that’s awesome and that I want to do, and then attempt to do them all at once.

So, taking a deep breath and telling the hamster in my brain to shut it, the only thing I did today outside of work and keep the kids alive was to book time off work.

That’s it.

A half day every week or two, one week breaks every 2-3 months (for conferences, but it’s a start!), and the occasional shorter day.

It’s not much, but seeing small patches of freedom that will let me breathe, already scheduled until September, made me relax a little.

I have no idea if those open places will stay open, but at least they won’t get filled without me consciously filling them.

So I’ve already accomplished something on my list. To take a more conscious look at my life and make sure that I take time for the important things.

Baby steps.
